Tahmina Tea turns 8 this week, and every year, we celebrate with a sale and campaign that highlights themes of courage. This year’s theme is the courage to slow down.

Every milestone is bittersweet: we love to celebrate our accomplishments, but there are also the disappointments that we carry deep inside. When I first started Tahmina Tea, I really struggled with the insecurity that my business wasn’t growing as quickly as the other companies around me.

Then I asked myself: why am I trying to move so fast, other than the fact that everyone else is doing it? I heard an inner voice say, “permission to be yourself,” and from that moment I felt the courage to the build my business on my terms and my pace.

Our world keeps telling us that we can move faster and more efficiently, but the truth is, most things can’t be artificially sped up: the time it takes for a flower to grow, the process of turning that flower into a spice, the time it takes for tea to steep in water, the decades it takes to bring transformation to conflict-affected communities.
